With a philosophy that each child is an artist with talents to be developed, during art classes in grades K-6, children experience a variety of media: paint, clay, fabric, paper, glass. Students participate in the creative process where they decide what they want to do, select the appropriate material, and designs a way complete the project. During the Spring Arts Festival student artists proudly display their artwork in an art show in Bonaventura Hall.
The teaching of art appreciation and aesthetics aids the student artist in personal expression. Art in the Classroom, a program sponsored by the Parents’ Association helps to develop an appreciation and understanding of fine art in our Lower School students. Reproductions of famous paintings are displayed in each classroom on a rotational basis. Parents serve as docents and visit the homerooms to discuss the artist and the artist’s work.
