Research Databases

Oak Knoll subscribes to a number of research databases. They are accessible from any computer on campus, and from off-campus with an Oak Knoll student login.Password information is available from either library.

ProQuest Direct provides access to 3,000 periodicals in full text and 6,000 indexed. The database is updated daily, so you can search articles from yesterday’s publications.

*EBSCOhost offers one-stop access to 1,500 journals in full text, over 1,000 full image journals and indexing for nearly 3,800 journals. Click on EBSCOhost Web. Then choose the database(s) that you want to search.

InfoTrac Elite 500 is a collection of 500 magazines and newspapers, all full text, not found in our other periodical databases. Includes The Star Ledger and The BergenRecord, The New York Times and The Times of London -- with remote access available.

Electric Library includes a wide variety of media such as newspapers, newswires, magazines, TV and radio transcripts, photographs and maps, all in full text.

New York Times Historical Newspapers is part of the ProQuest Direct database and contains full text articles from The New York Times from 1851 to 1998.

Encyclopedia Britannica Online includes the complete encyclopedia, Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, the Britannica Book of the Year and an Internet directory that includes more than 130,000 links to Web sites selected and reviewed by Britannica’s editorial staff.

World Book Online is the online version of the print encyclopedia.  Also included are daily and monthly features as well as a “Behind the Headlines” current events section.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center covers social issues such as Gun Control, Genetic Engineering, Endangered Species and Terrorism. It brings together viewpoint articles, reference overviews, statistics, newspaper and magazine articles, and links to more than 1,800 evaluated web sites.

Facts on File Online is a collection of reference databases on a wide range of subjects, such as science, multicultural studies, women’s studies, geography, and an excellent atlas.

Discovering Collection selection of reference, primary sources, creative works and multimedia, including video and audio clips in the core curriculum areas of history, literature, science and social studies from Thomson/Gale publications.

Gale Virtual Reference Collection includes online copies of the following reference books that are also available in print at the Hope Memorial Library: Encyclopedia of Crime & Justice, Encyclopedia of Bioethics, Encyclopedia of the American Constitution, Dictionary of American History, Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia, Environmental Issues: Essential Primary Sources, Human and Civil Rights: Essential Primary Sources, Immigration and Multiculturalism: Essential Primary Sources, Medicine, Health and Bioethics: Essential Primary Sources and Social Policy: Essential Primary Sources.

Teen Health & Wellness is a health information database and teen self-help resource.

Annals of American History is a collection of primary source materials including speeches, interviews, poems, memoirs and pictures from 1493 to the present.

Associated Press Multimedia Archive is a searchable online collection of photos, graphics and text dating as far back as the 1840s up till today.  All material is copyright released and can be downloaded and/or printed.

*Countrywatch includes political, economic, cultural and environmental information and current news on all the countries of the world.

CultureGrams Online Database contains the World Edition with cultural information for 178 countries and territories in 25 different categories.

Ethics & Medics Online is the online version of the bulletin of the National Catholic Bioethics Center that focuses on moral issues in the health and life sciences. Click on "View Back Issues" and then enter user name and password.

*JerseyCat is New Jersey’s Interlibrary Loan system. Users can search libraries throughout the state, including many academic libraries. Materials can be borrowed through Oak Knoll’s Hope Memorial Library.
