Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child is committed to developing a community of lifelong learners. That mission includes “meeting the wants of the age” and developing learning skills that make the best use of current technology to communicate, access, process, and present information. Oak Knoll recognizes that technology, digital communication, and information systems are a part of our society, and children grow up with a variety of technology tools for entertainment and communication. These tools play an important role in their learning and their success beyond the school years. Our goal is to teach our students the best use of these technology tools and resources for information acquisition and processing through integrated use in the classroom. Oak Knoll’s program provides students with current technology and information resources to enhance learning and create contemporary students.
Our program, led by the technology team, is composed of many facets of technology. We use technology to help learning in a variety of ways:
- Communication
- Online access to class information
- Campus Intranet
- Teacher/student email
- Access
- “Anytime/anywhere”
- Wireless LAN
- 1-1 computing available for all faculty and student
- Processing
- Information literacy
- Research and web site evaluation
- Composition of information for projects
- Presentation
- Share information processed and knowledge acquired
- Provide a graphical element for learning to enhance the classroom for multiple intelligences
Our focus is on information literacy and enhanced learning through technology. As a result, our goal is to provide an environment that is reasonably adaptable to changing technology trends. Rather than developing technical skills on a particular hardware or software platform, we will focus on developing essential skills that can be transported across platforms. In order to provide a program that can be adaptable, Oak Knoll will support a school owned technology program that provides students with the tools necessary for learning. Where appropriate, these tools will be assigned to students and, in return, reasonable care and responsibility are expected.
Technology is integrated at every learning level at Oak Knoll:
-
Classroom technology in the Upper School to support the learning process.
- 1-1 Laptop Program in grades 5-12
- Dedicated laptops for on-campus use in grades 5-8
-
Classroom technology in the Lower School introduces and strengthens student skills, and provides teachers with multimedia instructional tools.
Our goals for the future are to continue to support this program and provide appropriate growth. Professional development is essential to helping faculty integrate technology into their curriculum. Programs to inform students not only of information and technology skills, but also of appropriate and safe technology use is built into the academic program. We continue to grow and adjust the program while keeping personal interaction in the forefront of our environment.
