Lower School Celebrates Virtual Literacy Night

Students in kindergarten through third grade and their parents celebrated reading during Oak Knoll’s annual Family Literacy Night on Thursday, April 30, 2020. This year’s event had a unique twist as the children and parents came together for a special “Virtual Family Literacy Night: Home Edition” with their teachers.

“It was wonderful for teachers and families to continue to celebrate the joy of reading from their homes,” said Lower School Reading Specialist Cristina Iribarne. “We always encourage reading at home with family members so this was a very special experience for everyone!”

Children joined in with their pajamas and their favorite stuffed animals. Teachers sang, read poems, and read stories such as “Bee Heartful: Spread Loving-Kindness” by Frank J. Sileo; “This Book Ate My Dog” by Richard Byrne; and “Goodnight Moon” by Margaret Wise Brown. Children also participated in a raffle and an evening guided meditation/visualization.
