Ana Bui-Martinez ’19 represents Oak Knoll at Women in Sports Day

Senior two-sport athlete Ana “Anita” Bui-Martinez was chosen to represent Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child at Seton Hall University on February 3, 2019, in celebration of the 33rd anniversary of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The annual celebration is sponsored by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association and Tri-County Orthopedics to recognize the state’s top female athletes with special awards.

Each high school and college in New Jersey was invited to nominate one of their top athletes to be recognized at the event, celebrating the many achievements of girls and women in sports.

Athletic Director Kelly Childs lauded Bui-Martinez, a standout member of the volleyball team and captain of the fencing team, not just for her successes in athletics, but in the classroom and through charitable endeavors.

“Giving back to the community comes naturally to Anita and we are so proud to call her a Royal,” Childs said.

Bui-Martinez, of Union, has been recognized for achievement by the Foreign Language and Computer Science departments, in addition to being selected as a National Hispanic Scholar and AP Scholar, respectively.

She is also co-founder of the art ministry program under the guidance of Creative Arts Director Will Cardell and is a member of Dancers.

Outside of Oak Knoll, she enjoys playing music – including the piano, guitar, ukulele and violin, and is an elementary school tutor and active leader in her church’s youth group.

This past summer, she launched “Smart Volley, Smart Girls,” a series of free volleyball camps designed to teach the sport to deserving middle school girls who would not otherwise have access to such resources.

Congratulations, Ana!
