5 Oak Knoll students perform with ‘All-State’ Elementary and Junior High Choir
Five fifth and sixth graders from Oak Knoll’s coed elementary school recently performed with the all-state choir, which honors outstanding elementary and junior high school singers from all over New Jersey.
After rehearsals, the choir performed for their families at the J.P. Case Middle School in Flemington on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
Performing were: Lauren “Lulu” Buggie ’25, Melissa Dardanello ’25, Colleen O'Connor ’25, Lauren White ’25 and Scarlett Mahoney ’26. Buggie and White performed in the choir last year.
To be eligible, students submitted recorded auditions, which were judged among nearly 300 other grade 4-6 students from all over the state. The Oak Knoll students were informed of their selection in February.
“This was one of my favorite programs in my more than 20 years of sponsoring honor choir members,” said Lower School music teacher Brenda McCulley. “Our girls enjoyed the variety of the repertoire and rose to the challenges of each song.”
For the performance, students learned five songs of varying repertoire. They also performed a joint song with the New Jersey Junior High Honor Choir, which is made up of 120 select students in grades 7-9.
