Upper School celebrates students for academic, artistic, athletic honors

The final day of the 2018-19 school year appropriately concluded with recognition of dozens of students at the annual Upper School Awards Ceremony for achievement in academics, the performing and creative arts, athletics and more.
Addressing fellow students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators during the ceremony was Class of 2019 Salutatorian Christine Sieber ’19, who recalled her freshmen orientation at Oak Knoll.

“I never thought that the room full of strangers that day in the dining hall would turn out to be some of my best friends,” Sieber said. “We quickly learned that it takes a community of loving arms to help guide and support us and this is what Oak Knoll is all about.”

She then lauded the many talents of the Class of 2019, reminding them it is their responsibility to share these gifts.

“We are scholars. We are athletes. We are artists. We are musicians. But most of all, we are a sisterhood like no other,” she said. “Remember to share your talents, but also learn from others and support the accomplishments of your friends.”

She also offered other sage advice to her classmates.

“Wherever life takes you, always remember to be yourself. Have confidence. Some of us may not have found our path yet, and that’s OK. Take risks. Step out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to create your own destiny,” she said.

Valedictorian Elizabeth Hadley ’19 will address her classmates, their families, faculty and staff at Oak Knoll’s 91st commencement on Sunday, June 9, 2019.
