Oak Knoll lacrosse wins second-ever Tournament of Champions Title
For the second time in school history, Oak Knoll’s lacrosse team clinched the Tournament of Champions Title after a 10-8 win on Saturday, June 8, at Kean University against perennial contender Moorestown.
Oak Knoll won its first Tournament of Champions title in 2015 in a 11-10 victory over crosstown rival Summit and culminated a historic year for the program.
The Royals earned a berth into the tournament after winning the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 title after defeating Glen Ridge on Thursday, May 23, by a 17-5 margin. This set up a semifinal tournament matchup where they prevailed over Haddonfield by a score of 19-9.
It was the second straight year the Royals won the state sectional over Glen Ridge and is the program’s seventh state sectional title in a row and ninth since 2005.
The victory came just days after the team won the NJSIAA Prep A Championship for the third year in a row on Monday, May 13, 2019.
Like the state sectional matchup, the Preps featured familiar competition as it was the third year in a row that the Royals bested Lawrenceville as Oak Knoll doubled up the Big Red by a 12-6 score after notching wins in 2017 and 2018.
It was the program’s 14th Prep A Championship since 2004 and its eighth in the last nine years.
