A Big Week for Oak Knoll Athletics
Meghan Hodgin

As the spring season gains momentum, Oak Knoll student-athletes are making their mark across multiple programs, with recent weeks bringing a series of exciting milestones, record-breaking performances, and moments worth celebrating.

Leading the highlights, Alexandra Sparno ’26 of Mendham will continue her athletic career at the collegiate level after committing to compete in cross country and track at the University of Southern California. Sparno was recognized during a Spring Signing Day Ceremony on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, surrounded by her family, coaches, and classmates. She becomes the 20th member of the Class of 2026, which previously celebrated its college athletic commitments in November, becoming the largest signing class in school history.

Across campus, teams are also celebrating individual and collective achievements:

  • Softball captain Abby Han reached an impressive milestone with her 100th career hit.
  • Fellow captain Amelia Flood marked her 100th hit in memorable fashion with a grand slam.
  • Senior captain Kaitlin Wincko achieved 400 career strikeouts, a testament to her consistency and leadership in the circle.
  • On the lacrosse field, senior captains Lauren Dietrich and Maris McGinty each recorded their 100th career goals this week, leading the team with skill and determination.
  • In track and field, the 4x800M relay team captured a first-place finish and set both a new meet and school record at the Union County Championship Relay meet, while the 4x400M relay team earned a strong second-place finish.
  • On the course, four members of the golf team competed in the Union County Tournament Championship, where the varsity team finished second overall. Individually, Bekah Saxon placed third in the county, and Valentina Reale finished fifth.

Way to go, Royals!
