A Vision Takes Shape: Oak Knoll Prepares for Campus Enhancements in its Second Century
Meghan Hodgin

As Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child enters its second century, the school is preparing to take an exciting and meaningful step forward—bringing a long-held campus vision closer to reality.

Approved last year by the City of Summit Planning Board, Oak Knoll’s campus plan reflects years of thoughtful study, community input, and careful planning. Rooted in the school’s Catholic identity and Holy Child mission, the vision is designed to enhance the student experience in mind, body, and spirit—today and for generations to come.

With planning now progressing, Oak Knoll anticipates breaking ground on the first phase of construction in the spring of 2026.

“This moment is about much more than new spaces,” said Jennifer G. Landis, Head of School. “It’s about stewarding our mission forward—creating environments that support who our students are becoming, while preserving the warmth, care, and sense of belonging that define Oak Knoll.”

Designed with Students at the Center

The campus vision focuses on four key areas, each thoughtfully designed to support learning, wellness, and community at every stage of a student’s journey:

  • Lower and Upper Connelly Hall, with expanded and modernized learning and gathering spaces
  • Tisdall Hall, featuring enhancements that support wellness, movement, and community connection
  • 72 Prospect Street, reintegrated into campus to allow more student-centered spaces at the heart of daily school life

Together, these updates reflect Oak Knoll’s commitment to creating spaces where students can explore, collaborate, and grow—academically, socially, and spiritually.

Throughout the planning and construction process, student safety and continuity of campus life remain top priorities. Work will be carefully phased, with close attention to minimizing disruption and maintaining the rhythm and excellence families expect.

“What will never change is what matters most,” Landis added. “Every student will continue to be known, supported, and fully engaged — every single day.”

Rooted in Mission. Built for the Future.

Guided by the Holy Child mission and Cornelia Connelly’s call to “meet the wants of the age,” the new spaces are designed to help students:

  • Learn boldly, in environments that foster curiosity and collaboration
  • Lead with purpose, supported by opportunities that promote wellness, innovation, and community
  • Thrive joyfully, in spaces that reflect dignity, belonging, and care

Oak Knoll is partnering with NK Architects and Natoli Construction, both of whom bring deep experience working with schools and active campuses. Their shared approach emphasizes thoughtful planning, safety, and respect for the daily life of the school.

As Oak Knoll looks ahead, this work represents a continuation — not a departure — of the values that have shaped the school for generations. It is a vision rooted in purpose, inspired by community, and focused firmly on students and their futures.

Families, alumnae/i, and friends are invited to explore project renderings and an animated walkthrough of the planned spaces:
