On May 28, Oak Knoll’s Athletic Department honored 11 college-bound senior athletes for their commitment to athletics and academic excellence. These students represented a wide range of sports such as track and field, rugby, lacrosse, and field hockey.
To commemorate the occasion, each athlete received a customized Oak Knoll banner reflecting their respective sport — a tangible symbol of discipline, hard work, and dedication on and off the field.
“It’s more than just a lunch,” said Dr. Kelly Childs, Oak Knoll’s Director of Athletics. “It’s a moment to honor the resilience and ambition of these young women who have balanced rigorous academics with high-level athletics. When you commit to playing in college, you join a sisterhood that extends beyond your sport. This gathering reminds them — and all of us — that they are not alone in the challenges they’ve faced or the successes they’ve earned. It’s a powerful legacy, and one we’re proud to celebrate.”
Each of these seniors signed letters of intent to compete at the collegiate level earlier this year — nine signed in the fall and two signed this spring.
The event also featured special guests and Oak Knoll alumnae, Trinity Koetje ’22 (Georgetown lacrosse), Lily Ramsey ’21 (Yale field hockey), and Mary Kate Conniff ’20 (Villanova lacrosse), who returned to campus to share their advice and experience as student-athletes at both the high school and collegiate levels. All three Oak Knoll graduates provided their insights on balancing a demanding athletic schedule with a rigorous academic program. They spoke about forming connections with the upperclassmen, staying grounded in your work, and finding purpose beyond your sport.
Surrounded by classmates, alumnae, and mentors within the athletics program helped reinforce the sense of belonging and support that Oak Knoll is known for regarding the development of the whole child. As these students prepare to take on the challenges faced at the collegiate level, these student-athletes leave behind their legacy of excellence for future generations to follow.
Milan Jones ’25, a graduating senior from Oak Knoll, is heading to Seton Hall University this fall to begin an exciting new chapter. Before she officially bids farewell to Oak Knoll, Milan is making the most of her final weeks here by completing her Senior Capstone Project in the Office of Marketing and Communications. Through this unique program, she’s gaining hands-on experience in marketing and communications by creating content that highlights the Oak Knoll community. We’re excited to see all she accomplishes during her Capstone and beyond!
