Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child participated in Giving Tuesday on December 3, 2024, with a unique goal: collecting 1,924 comments of gratitude on a dedicated Gratitude Day website.
Proving that small acts of gratitude can inspire big moments of connection, friends, family, students, staff, faculty, and alumnae/i posted 1,942 notes of gratitude throughout the day, blowing well past the goal which Oak Knoll set based on the school’s centennial year and original founding in 1924.
Earlier in the year, during Oak Knoll’s Founders’ Day of Giving, the school was overwhelmed by our Holy Child community’s financial generosity and support. That support inspired the decision to solicit simple statements of gratitude to serve as a beautiful testament to what makes our community so extraordinary: the relationships we cherish, the kindness we share, and the inspiration we draw from one another.
Messages ranged from the all-encompassing “I am grateful for the world” to the short and sweet “I am grateful for pizza.” Common themes included gratitude for family, friends, the wonderful Oak Knoll community, and God’s many gifts.
As we enter our second century as a school with a strong mission and a sense of purpose, we acknowledge that gratitude is a daily practice for the Oak Knoll community. Gratitude Day can become our unique annual tradition to celebrate that fact. Here’s to 100 years of kindness, inspiration, and gratitude—and to the many grateful participants who made our community shine on this special day and will continue the spirit throughout the years to come.
