Nearly 400 alumnae/i, families, faculty, trustees, and friends gathered on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at The Venetian in Garfield to celebrate Oak Knoll’s remarkable 100-year legacy. The evening was a lively mix of reflection, heartfelt tributes, and a bold vision for the future, as the school honored its enduring mission of faith, purpose, and educational excellence.
The evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction, where guests reconnected, reflected, and celebrated Oak Knoll’s remarkable milestone. The formal program opened with a warm welcome from Board of Trustees member Craig Chobor, followed by a prayer offered by former Heads of School Sr. Cynthia Vives, SHCJ, and Timothy J. Saburn.
During her remarks, Head of School Jennifer G. Landis reflected on the significance of the evening, noting that it became even more special with the groundbreaking news that Robert Francis Prevost had been announced as the first American Pope, taking the name Leo XIV, earlier that day. This historic moment added an inspiring dimension to the celebration, highlighting the shared values of faith, leadership, and service that define both Oak Knoll and the broader Catholic community.
“This evening isn’t just about looking back at all we’ve accomplished over the last 100 years,” Landis shared. “It’s about continuing our mission and ensuring Holy Child education inspires generations to come.”
The program reflected a beautiful balance between honoring Oak Knoll’s rich history and celebrating its enduring values. One of the evening’s highlights was the unveiling of the SHCJ Heritage House System, a meaningful tribute to the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus, who founded Oak Knoll in 1924. Additionally, the school celebrated the extraordinary commitment of the Jeff and Angela Schroeder Family, whose two decades of dedication have significantly shaped Oak Knoll’s culture of faith and service.
The celebration reached its emotional peak with a performance of the alma mater, led by alumnae/i and the Upper School Ensemble, symbolizing the deep bond between past and present generations.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us in commemorating this milestone and for your steadfast support of Oak Knoll. It is because of your dedication that our legacy of faith, service, and leadership will continue to inspire generations to come.
