Oak Knoll’s K-2 Family Literacy Night was a heartwarming celebration of learning, creativity, and community, made even more special as part of the school’s Centennial celebration. Held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, the event highlighted Oak Knoll’s century-long commitment to fostering young readers and writers, embracing the theme of growing from an acorn to a mighty oak.”
The celebration began with teachers reading Treemendous: The Diary of a Not So Mighty Oak by Bridget Heos, a delightful story that captivated both children and parents alike. From there, families moved to the dining hall, where a variety of hands-on activities awaited them. Together, they decorated an OKS Centennial Tree Ring, created their own history and growth record tree rings, crafted adorable acorns, and even made mini books about the life cycle of an oak tree.
“Children, parents, and teachers create wonderful memories with each other while celebrating the gift of literacy," shared Cristina Hammond, Lower School Reading Specialist. “It’s a memorable night.”
The event not only celebrated a century of Oak Knoll’s dedication to education but also reinforced the importance of literacy in building strong roots for future generations.
