This trimester, our sixth-grade students embarked on a creative journey with the "Pieces of Me" laser-cut puzzle project, blending art, technology, and self-expression. Over the course of several classes, students explored the capabilities of laser cutting technology while designing custom puzzles that represent their unique identities.
Using digital design software, Sketchbook, and the school’s laser cutter, each student created intricate puzzle pieces that reflected aspects of their individuality. The project not only honed their spatial reasoning and design skills but also provided a platform to express personal stories and values through art.
The experience culminated with the finished puzzles, with vibrant designs and thoughtful details, which were presented in a final celebration showcasing both individual artistry and collective innovation.
By combining cutting-edge technology with meaningful self-reflection, this project highlighted the importance of individuality and creativity in learning, showing how each “piece” contributes to the greater whole.
Puzzle pieces will be on display later this year during the Spring Arts Festival.
This project is a component of an arts and technology collaboration entitled “Digital Design Studio.” This course immerses students in the world of creative art and technology utilizing the design process through a series of hands-on projects. Stay tuned for more project highlights and coverage of this innovative addition to the Lower School Curriculum.
