Nicole Johnston, Oak Knoll Upper School History Teacher and Dean of Summer Academic Programs, said that as “today’s world includes technology, rather than run from it we should embrace the many possibilities it can offer.”

“Twenty-first century education and the skills necessary for students to find success in the workplace are utilized in online classes,” Johnston continued. “Offering online classes provides the added benefit of allowing students to continue their studies from various locations.”

Online Summer Scholar Courses:

  • Colonial and Post-Colonial Studies
  • Environmental Ethics
  • Introduction to Strength and Conditioning
  • Maps, Democracy and the Election of 2020
  • Sports and Politics.

Lastly – Remember the Ladies – about the history surrounding women’s right to vote – will also be offered as this summer marks the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote.

Also available online and new this summer is the four-week Summer Scholars Online Career Series. An expert from each individual field will lead the weekly discussion while focusing on a new topic each week.

This summer, any student entering grades 6-12 may also enroll in classes at Oak Knoll’s Summit campus. These on-campus classes will be taught by Oak Knoll’s faculty and include:

  • Algebra I and Some Fun!
  • Current Events
  • Financial Literacy
  • Geometry

Note: In the event on-campus learning is impossible, all families will be given full refunds.

“Twenty-first century education is no longer about rote learning and regurgitating facts,” said Johnston. “It requires students to absorb, understand, and demonstrate their knowledge while building essential life skills such as empathy, metacognition, grit, critical thinking, communication, resilience, and collaboration. Summer Scholars will focus on these skills while infusing content from literature, math, history, science, and health. This is a great opportunity for students to explore their passions, develop a lifelong love of learning and learn valuable skills important for their futures.”
