Oak Knoll Hosts 30th Annual Choral Consortium

More than 175 middle school choral students gathered at Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child Tuesday, November 19, 2019, for a collaborative workshop that ended with several spirited performances.

Students from Oak Knoll, Frelinghuysen Middle School, Morris Plains Borough School, Newark Academy, the Delbarton School and the Peck School – which are members of the New Jersey Consortium of Middle Schools – joined together for the 30th annual event.

In addition to the workshop, each choral group performed two pieces followed by all six groups singing together, “We Are One,” by Brian Tate.

Oak Knoll has hosted the non-competitive choral consortium since it was founded in 1989 by middle and high school Music Director Ruby Robertson-Knox, who called the event a bonding experience.

“We certainly have come together to be one today. The collaboration was bar none,” Robertson-Knox said. “If it can get better after 30 years of doing it, than you need to keep doing it another 30 years.”
