Oak Knoll Moves to Virtual Learning

Amid the rapid spread of the novel COVID-19 virus, Oak Knoll School kicked off its move to a distance learning schedule on Monday, March 23, 2020. Oak Knoll joined the unprecedented virtual learning movement that hundreds of schools in the state and thousands across the country have quickly adopted.

Before New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy mandated that all schools close indefinitely and until further notice on March 16, 2020, Oak Knoll School preemptively announced that it would turn to a distance learning schedule after students returned from spring break on March 23, 2020.

“Our administrative team has been meeting daily and we recently convened after the press conferences of both Governor Murphy and President Trump,” said Timothy J. Saburn, Head of Oak Knoll School. “We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation every hour and reevaluating the possibility of longer-term remote learning plans as deemed necessary.”

Beginning Monday, March 23, and running through April 13 – with the potential for further online learning – Oak Knoll will operate on a distance learning schedule while ceasing all in-person and athletic activities. All teachers in grades K-12 will communicate and interact with students and parents through a vsariety of digital tools, including Google Classroom, SeeSaw, ScreenCastify, Skype, Zoom, RAZZ Kids, Zoom, Screen-o-matic, Flipgrid, Voice Thread, Kahoot, Padlet, EdPuzzle and NearPod — among many others.

“We are all taking this one step at a time to make the most informed decisions we possibly can,” Saburn explained. “We are continuing to follow the advice of the CDC and the New Jersey Department of Health regarding the spread of COVID-19 and will communicate any changes to our procedures as appropriate. We continue to monitor this ever-changing situation hourly and daily as the safety of our community is always our highest priority.”
