To me, Oak Knoll is a home base. I came from a school where I felt alone, shy, and not valued. When I chose to come to OKS, everything changed for me. Coming here every day feels like a breath of fresh air. The reason I say Oak Knoll is like a home base for me is that it’s become so much more than a place to learn. Obviously, this is a place where I grow my skills and knowledge, which is the foundation of a home base. But beyond that, there is so much more here. I’ve grown into a leader who is not afraid to speak up and speak out. I feel comfortable putting myself out there and trying new things that I am passionate about. However, what’s a home base without support? Oak Knoll is like my person to lean on. On one hand, we have the teachers and staff. I have a personal bond with all of my teachers, and it’s evident they really care about my peers and me and truly want us to succeed (not to mention these bonds come super quick with the small class sizes!). On the other hand, we have my friends I’ve made here. This community is so loving and supportive. All of the grades, whether seventh or twelfth, become so tight-knit, like a family dynamic. I feel so loved and happy the second I step into our campus. I know that no matter where I’m headed here, there’s always a friendly face to chat with or someone to ask if I need help, no matter the issue. Homebase to me is a place to evolve and learn with a team unit that cares for one another. That is exactly what Oak Knoll has been for me.
