Jazz Concert Raises Funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

In a heartwarming display of talent and dedication, Oak Knoll’s new Jazz Club members transformed their passion for music into a noteworthy cause. The evening of December 18, 2023, marked a significant milestone as the Upper School hosted a Jazz Concert. This spontaneous concert was a revelation of the students’ musical prowess and a testament to their shared commitment to use their abilities to serve others.

The club, led by Iona Dowden ’25, worked tirelessly throughout the semester, carefully curating a diverse repertoire that included pieces by notable artists like Laufey and Etta James. Their collective efforts culminated in a mesmerizing evening of jazz music in the Choral Music Room that transformed into an authentic Jazz Club setting.

“I wanted to do something meaningful with my instrument,” Dowden shared, reflecting on the driving force behind this initiative. True to her words, the concert aimed to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an endeavor that was met with overwhelming support. The Jazz Concert managed to garner nearly $200, a feat that stands as a tribute to the concerted efforts of the club members.

“I am so impressed with all of the work that these girls have done and their dedication to the music,” Dowden concluded. “I am so thankful for this opportunity that I had to use my musical ability to help others.”
