Every classroom in Oak Knoll’s Lower School is equipped with the latest in interactive touch screens and boards, allowing all teachers to integrate technology seamlessly and creatively in academic lessons across the curriculum.
- Our Lower School provides 1:1 technology for all students, making it easier and quicker for them to access the most up-to-date information on iPads in the K-2 classrooms and Chromebooks in the 3-6 classrooms.
- Our teachers use technology to transform the learning experience with many digital resources.
- Our IDEAS Lab is super-charged with technology providing students with access to an incredible amount of new opportunities. From learning how to code to learning how to collaborate, create and make. The IDEAS Lab is equipped with robotics, 3-D printing, electronic circuits, virtual reality and augmented reality.
“The I.D.E.A.S. Lab is a place where you can generate ideas, test them, fail and try again to bring your ideas to life.” – Kimberly Connolly, Lower School Technology Coordinator
The I.D.E.A.S. Lab (which is the name of our makerspace that stands for innovation, design, engineering, art and science) is an exciting new way to promote the established concept of cross-curricular learning. The lab is the ideal environment where students are encouraged to engage in all STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) fields, while enabling them to find new and exciting ways to improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The lab is part of Oak Knoll’s robust Lower School technology curriculum, featuring a Genius Hour, enhanced coding, Wonder Workshop K-12, Swift Playground from Apple for iPads, and CoSpaces for creating virtual environments.
The space features collaborative tables, sit-to-stand desks, modular seating, wobble stools, a large butcher block brainstorming table, and student creation stations in order to enhance student-centered learning.
