Extended Day Program

Excellence Beyond the Classroom

Our Extended Day offers a wonderful opportunity for children in our Lower School to extend their school day from 3-5:30 p.m. We offer three Extended Day programs that are as educational as they are fun. Please explore them below and email patti.cepparulo@oakknoll.org with questions.

Before Care Program: 7:30 a.m.

Care for pre-K through sixth graders is available every school day beginning at 7:30 a.m. at no additional cost.

After-School Adventures Program: 3 – 4:30 p.m.

The After-School Adventures program is a popular Oak Knoll extracurricular and a fun way for children to continue learning outside the classroom. Participants enjoy a snack together before heading to the hour-long “club” of their choosing. Engaging and kid-friendly, clubs can range from music lessons to basketball clinics to cooking classes to martial arts. All clubs are led by qualified instructors with specialized training in their disciplines.

After-School Adventure Program sessions are offered from 3 to 4:30 p.m. September through December and January through June.

DinoDiscoveries

Embark on a prehistoric adventure with our DinoDiscoveries class, an after-school enrichment class designed exclusively for elementary-aged explorers! Unearth the fascinating world of dinosaurs as we delve into the mysteries of the past. Our engaging and hands-on activities will transport young minds to a time when giant reptiles ruled the Earth.

Study Smart: Homework Assistance and Study Skills

This after-school class is designed to support students in grades 2-6 by providing valuable homework assistance and teaching essential study skills. The class aims to create a positive and productive environment where students can enhance their learning and develop effective study habits.

Irish Dancing

Learn to “Riverdance” during After-School Adventures at OKS! Traditional Irish step dance is a great way for girls and boys to challenge their bodies and minds. Your child will gain self-confidence, stage presence, coordination, fitness, and balance as well as have a lot of fun. The class will be taught by a former cast member of “Riverdance, the Show,” Amy Siegel Loxley, who is also a certified Irish dance instructor. No experience is necessary – just an eagerness to have fun!

Tech Explorers

Welcome to “Tech Explorers,” an engaging after-school enrichment class designed to ignite the curiosity of young minds in the world of computer science. Our innovative program combines fun and education as young minds embark on an exciting journey using technology. From mastering the basics of device interaction to creating their own digital stories and exploring coding through interactive games, our Tech Explorers will develop essential skills in a creative and supportive environment. With a blend of hands-on activities, age-appropriate apps, and even an introduction to the fascinating realm of robotics, this class empowers children to become confident, tech-savvy learners.

Imaginative Play

Each week the children will work with puppets, learn about Theater, and perform their own original stories. We will utilize puppet forms like shadow figures, rod puppets, masks, hand puppets, and more! The students will also learn about the traditional performing arts of other cultures such as Kamishibai: The Art of Japanese Storytelling. The class culminates in a session-end celebration, in which all students will perform in front of their peers.

Welcome to the Outdoor Adventures, an exhilarating after-school program tailored for students in grades Pre-K through 6! Our Outdoor Adventures will embark students on a journey of discovery, connecting with nature through a variety of thrilling outdoor activities, from classic outdoor games and sports to exciting nature hikes and engaging scavenger hunts. Outdoor Adventures will foster teamwork, coordination, a love for physical activity, and an appreciation for the wonders of the natural world.

Enchanted Ballet Adventures with Ms. Dean

Embark on a magical journey of grace and creativity with our after-school Adventures Enchanted Ballet Class designed exclusively for students in grades Pre-K to 3. Eileen Dean is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Theater and studied with the Joffrey Ballet. At Oak Knoll, we believe in fostering not just the physical development of our young dancers but also their imaginations. Along with teaching basic ballet techniques and positions, this class will create a positive and supportive environment where children can build confidence and friendships while discovering the joy of dance.

Plan your playdates for Fridays! Friday Fun gives your child the perfect opportunity to play with their friends in a safe and nurturing environment. Each Friday will offer new opportunities for fun friendship activities such as creating obstacle courses, going on scavenger hunts, painting from nature, having a dance party, making our own movies and much, much, more!

Private Tutoring
Fee: $75 per one-hour lesson

Instructor: Annabela Svorinich, Lower School teacher

Annabela began learning to play piano at the age of nine. She continued her piano studies in college under the direction of Marta Marchena at Kean University where she earned her B.A. in Music and Spanish. After graduating, she directed and owned Miss Anna’s Piano, an in-home piano lessons provider for ages 5-adults. Some of her students have moved on to pursue careers including a graduate from Westminster Choir College in Princeton. She is experienced in preparing students for piano auditions, recitals, and above all instilling a lifelong love for piano playing. Annabela currently teaches Spanish is grades 2nd-6th grade in our lower school and has taught for our Adventures program since 2017.

Instructor: Eileen Dean

Eileen Dean is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Theater and studied with the Joffrey Ballet. She has performed in numerous Broadway National tours, including “Evita” directed by Hal Prince and “West Side Story.” She has been a voice teacher and coach for 10 years, both privately and at Papermill Playhouse, and is a member of the Tony Award/Grammy winning Broadway Inspirational Voices. Eileen is thrilled to be joining the Oak Knoll community and helping students to explore their voices, both in and out of the classroom.

After Care Program: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Extended afternoon care is available for kindergarten through sixth-graders every regular school day from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., when students play, practice on computers, and enjoy free time with friends under caring adult supervision.

To register for an Extended Day program, please complete the registration form. Although we will make every effort to accommodate your request, we accept participants on a first-come, first-serve basis and hold spots only for those who have submitted all written forms and payments.

Remote Learning Day
Tuesday, February 13, 2024

Due to the weather forecast and winter storm warning, Oak Knoll School’s campus will be closed on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, and will operate on a virtual learning schedule.

Upper School runs from 8:10 to 12:30. Students should check their email from Mrs. McGroarty for more information.

Lower School students in PreK to grade 2 brought home materials from teachers for optional review and enrichment and may also log in to Clever to access all learning apps. Teachers of students in grades 3-6 will post snow day assignments on the Homework grid on Clever by noon.

All after-school activities have been canceled.
