Lower School Application Process
Thank you for your interest in Oak Knoll School. Our admissions process is all about finding the right fit and the admission team is looking forward to getting to know you. Although our campus is closed to visitors, we have created several different ways for you to get to know OKS, too. Let’s get started!
Our virtual information sessions will give you an overview of Oak Knoll’s curriculum, traditions, extracurricular offerings, and more. Beginning October 5, these sessions are offered on Tuesdays from 2-2:45 p.m. throughout the fall. Check out the Upcoming Events section of our Admissions website to register for a convenient time. In addition, our Admissions On-Demand page has a wide selection of videos and recorded sessions that will allow you and your family to learn more about the OKS community from the comfort of your home.
The OKS online application process begins once you have submitted your Student Profile, which is a brief form, to be completed by a parent/guardian, to provide us with some preliminary information. The application fee is $50, payable online with the submission of your Student Profile. Once you’ve submitted this form, you will have access to your application portal, which includes a checklist of the required application materials. We encourage you to submit the Student Profile as soon as possible so we have plenty of time to work with your family.
Although we continue to maneuver through pandemic precautions, we are delighted to offer opportunities to visit Oak Knoll in person. From your application portal, you will see the option to sign up for a parent tour*. Parents/Guardians will also have a chance to speak with an admission officer during this visit, to help us learn more about your child and to have your questions answered.
If you are not ready to submit an application yet, we will be offering small group tours beginning in October for parents who would like to see the school before submitting. Group tour dates will be added throughout the fall based on our local Board of Health’s pandemic safety guidelines.
*Adults only, please. Masks are required for all visitors.
- Student Profile due November 1, 2021
- All Remaining Application Materials due 1/21/2022
All application materials must be submitted by the deadlines, so please plan accordingly! Applications received after these dates will be considered on a rolling admissions basis, should openings still be available.
Admission Assessments for pre-K through grade 4 will be done remotely (a desk computer or tablet will be needed.) Families will be able to register online via the application portal. Testing will be available on the following dates:
- November 4, 5, 11, and 12, 2021
- January 5, 11, and 12, 2022
Applicants to grades 5 and 6 are required to take either the ERB, Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE), or the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). You may register online at www.iseetest.org using the school code 311430 or at www.ssat.org using the school code 5500. These tests are currently being offered at various sites and virtually, and can be arranged at the time and date you choose.
Oak Knoll will be an ISEE test site for fifth- and sixth-grade applicants (COVID restrictions pending) on November 20, 2021. Please note that all test scores must be sent to Oak Knoll directly from the testing organization and received by the application deadline.
Oak Knoll requires recommendations from the applicant’s current teachers and Principal/Director or Guidance Counselor. You will email the forms to the teachers directly through the application portal. Please request recommendations after November 1 (so the teachers can get to know your child.) We offer the option of an additional Teacher Recommendation, and Extracurricular Recommendation, in case there is a former teacher or instructor who knows your child well as a learner and/or community member. All recommendations must be received by the application deadline.
In the application portal, you will find the electronic Release of Records Form. Please email the form directly to your child’s school through the applicationportal. Your school will be prompted to upload your academic records to our portal through your request email. We ask for academic grades from the previous two school years, and the first report card from the current year (as soon as it is available.) We do not accept mailed transcripts.
