Oak Knoll Celebrates 10 Years of Family Literacy Night

On May 4, 2023, teachers and children in grades K-2 and their families celebrated 10 years of Family Literacy Night at OKS. OKS’ first Family Literacy Night was in 2013.

Teachers read children a story titled, “Penguin on Vacation” by Salina Yoon. Then, the children and their parents headed down to the Dining Hall and colored a Penguin cutout to take with them on vacation. They also made Crab, a character from the story, and a Seashell Jar that included a special summer message.

“Family Literacy Night has been a special event for the children this past decade. It’s wonderful how we can pause and take a moment to remind ourselves how important literacy is, especially the importance of families and teachers in children’s literacy journeys,” said Cristina Iribarne, Lower School Reading Specialist.
