Cristina Iribarne
Cristina Iribarne has worked as the Lower School Reading Specialist at Oak Knoll School since 2010. She earned an MA. in Intellectual Disabilities/Autism (Special Education) and an MA. in Literacy Specialist from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is a certified N.J. State Reading Specialist. She is also a certified Reading Recovery teacher implementing the Reading Recovery program at Oak Knoll, a certified Orton-Gillingham teacher, and dually certified in special education and general education. She started her teaching journey as a special education teacher in NY and later worked as a general education teacher at The School at Columbia University in New York, NY.
She enjoys bringing her love of yoga and mindfulness into her reading instruction. Cristina is a 500+ hour certified Yoga Instructor with certifications in Children’s Yoga, Yoga for Children with Special Needs, Restorative Yoga, and Yoga Nidra.
She continues to share her love of literacy through Oak Knoll’s K-2 Family Literacy Night.
In addition to teaching yoga and reading, practicing yoga, reading, she also enjoys spending time at the beach with her family and her dog, Francisco. One of her favorite authors is Thich Nhat Hanh. Her favorite quote is by Mother Theresa, “It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing.” What I love most about Oak Knoll is the opportunity to walk with and work alongside readers and writers on their literacy journey!
