Oak Knoll School senior and basketball standout Paige Morton ’20, from Summit, joined rare and historic company when she scored her 1,000th point Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at home versus the Royals’ cross-town rival, Kent Place.

Morton, who will be continuing her basketball career at Princeton University next year, is now one of only eight Royals to have scored 1,000 points during their Oak Knoll careers, including Helen (McMenamin) O’Connor ’80, Kate Veronneau ’96, current Oak Knoll head basketball coach Katie Cummings ’03, Courtney Hubschmann ’05, Catie Mota ’11, Kerri Moran ’13 and Emily Archer ’18. O’Connor and Cummings are both members of the Gerald P. Butler Athletic Hall of Fame.

“Scoring my 1,000th point was a really exciting day for me,” Morton said. “I am super grateful for the huge support I had from my teammates, family and friends. I am happy that I am able to make a difference on the Oak Knoll basketball team and lead us toward successfully finishing up the second half of our strong 2020 season. Being a senior, these last months of high school basketball are important and special to me as I am trying to instill a lasting impression of excitement surrounding Oak Knoll basketball. Lastly, I could not have done it without my amazing teammates who helped me so much along the way.”

Morton’s milestone comes off the heels of her receiving the Academic Excellence Award at the 15th annual Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children Basketball Festival earlier this month. Morton was also nominated for the McDonald’s All-American Game and was also NJ.com’s Union County Basketball Player of the Month.

“What’s most impressive about Paige is that she missed half her sophomore season due to an ankle injury and was still was able to achieve this milestone!” Cummings said. “Paige has become one of the most dominant players in the state and will continue her career at the next level. She’s not only a great basketball player, but student, teammate and leader. She is the perfect example of what it means to be an Oak Knoll athlete. While this milestone is terrific, I know Paige is more excited to see how far our team can go in the county and state tournaments,” Cummings said.
