Lower School Celebrates Virtual Family Literacy Night

Oak Knoll’s Lower School students in pre-K through third grade cozied up in their pajamas and logged onto Oak Knoll’s virtual Family Literacy Night on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Children gathered online with their parents, teachers and favorite stuffed animal and pets all to celebrate literacy.

OKS teachers read poems and stories to students including “I Like Myself” by Karen Beaumont, “Llama, Llama, Red Pajama” by Ann Dewdney, and “Yes Day” by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.

In addition to celebrating literacy by being read to, Oak Knoll teachers recognized students by raffling off prizes, including books and reading totes. The evening concluded with a meditation about reading.

“Literacy is listening, speaking, communicating, thinking, reading, and writing,” said Lower School Reading Specialist Cristina Iribarne. “It makes space for us to understand each other, be more compassionate, and help one another. Reading is truly a gift that we can give to ourselves every day.”
